Ears

Just realized that I haven't shown any puppy pics for a while, either.....this is Peanut, the one that Connie decided to keep. We were unsure if his ears would stand, mom's don't, dad's do, so it could have gone either way.

It appears they will---right at the moment they droop BACKWARDS at the tips. I can see right now that we can't allow a single stem of cheetgrass in the yard!

Cathood

I used to feature cat pics in my Ebay auctions and always wanted to publish this pose.....he's totally secure in his cathood.

Real

Stepping off the edge a little here....what is "real"?
Someone said to me at the last show I did that there is no reality, it's all in the perception.

Is the food I put on the table any more real because I made it and not some bread factory somewhere squirting out automated loaves?
Is the mac-n-cheese any more real because I didn't use the box with the cheese-flavored powder?

Beads

I haven't shown any beads for quite some time---I'd been at burn-out and didn't want to devote blog time to something that was taking more time from my life than I wanted to give....But now the show is over, and the trunk show is on it's way home, and I can breathe again.

Weeds

I was at the library with Con and noticed a thick, heavy book entitled "Weeds of Nebraska and the Great Plains". When I opened it the first thing I noticed was yarrow classified as a weed, secondly lambsquarters.....wow.
It's a marvelous book, but seems to follow the pattern I've noticed here, it's either a field crop or noxious....nothing in between.
so now I'm off to Amazon for a used copy for my bookshelf.

Mountains of spices...

I ordered a couple of things from the Spice Barn, star anise and ginger...the package arrived today. Even though the spices are sealed in double plastic, the scent still came through and saturated the layers of tissue paper the bags were wrapped in in. I almost threw it out, but realized I need to save it to wrap beads in for mailing....

Dishes

"So when are we going to do the dishes?"
This from a child who doesn't like to empty the dishwasher even when paid to do so...hmmm. Shoulda decomissioned the thing a long time ago.


Rain last night, grey and drizzly this morning....good for the soil and makes it easier to dig. since we got a late start this year, we're going to plant directly on a lot of things. We've noticed in years past that the volunteer tomatoes actually do better than the greenhouse starts by the end of the year. They come up slower, but the plants are more vigorous, and they seem to produce just about as much. So this year we'll try direct planting since we've had so much else going on.
